PLEASE, HELP
Well, October 31st has arrived, and still no action from Washington D.C. on SNAP. Benefits are expected to expire tomorrow. Even if they don’t, between the Federal worker layoffs and hundreds of thousands of newly jobless workers, local food banks will be a saving grace.
There is a $6 billion contingency fund Congress could draw from today.
As of right now, Republicans are refusing to authorize it.
SNAP keeps families fed. It’s not “extra.” It’s groceries, milk, eggs, cereal for kids, produce, bread, staples. It’s dignity. And most people who rely on SNAP are often working more than one job, and still can’t make enough to cover the basics.
Food banks are on the verge of being overwhelmed.
Please give to your local food bank if you are able. Every community has one, in churches, senior centers, storefronts, synagogues, and community halls.
Tell friends. Have a neighborhood food drive. Send an email. Post on social media. Ask those you know to help. If you have small children or teens, let them participate in giving.
We take care of each other when our leaders won’t.
Please, help.
