PLEASE BEAR WITH ME
This Is My Take
Please bear with me while I offer you a bit of history:
In 2015, during the Obama administration, the JCPOA, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, was implemented between the U.S., Iran, and five other nations known as the P5+1. These countries included the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (the UK, Russia, France, China, and the U.S.), plus Germany.
In essence, the JCPOA stated that in exchange for relief from existing harsh economic sanctions, Iran would limit its nuclear activities and submit to rigorous inspections. These inspections would be verified and certified by the U.S. President every 90 days.
During his 2016 presidential campaign, then-candidate trump pledged to “tear up the agreement” and replace it with a “totally different deal.” In May 2018, then-President, trump formally withdrew the U.S. from the JCPOA. Iran began disregarding the agreement’s limitations about a year later. Despite repeated efforts, the trump administration was never able to secure a new deal.
Netanyahu (supposedly trump’s great friend) didn’t bother to consult the United States before launching a strike on Iran. After years of erratic foreign policy and broken alliances during the trump administration(s), America has become irrelevant on the world stage.
The last thing this new trump administration wants is U.S. involvement in another war in the Middle East. They’re too busy waging war on us, on our constitutional rights, our democratic institutions, and the rule of law.
If trump hadn’t been so singularly obsessed and deranged with dismantling every achievement of the Obama administration, the JCPOA might still be in place. And I’m about 90% sure Israel wouldn’t be bombing Iran today.
