FAST FASHION
Who Needs It?
Fast fashion is OUT. The fashion industry keeps us on our toes every season, rolling out new collections for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn—often with Holiday and Cruise lines in between. But do any of us really need more? Have you fallen out of love with last year's perfectly fitting jeans? I bet not, yet this year’s trend may feature a deeper hue of denim or a cuffed hemline.
Truth? Color palettes rarely change drastically. They’re just rebranded—Oceanic Blue becomes Serene Navy, Millennial Pink turns into Rosé. Slightly deeper, lighter, or brighter—that’s the “gotcha.”
Another truth? If you love the fit and style of what’s already in your closet, seasonal changes are usually minor. A puffy sleeve (not for grown women!), a boxy cut instead of streamlined, a cuff replacing a finished hem—small tweaks, not revolutions.
With that in mind, here are the colors fashion houses have chosen for you this Spring/Summer ’25:
Serene Sky replaces last year’s pale blue.
Sun-Kissed Coral updates last year’s warm pink.
Verdant Glow (yes, it’s just green—let’s pretend it’s groundbreaking) takes over for green fields.
Expect Muted Lilac, Crisp Lemon, and Earthy Clay as well.
Prints? Think contemporary art designs, florals on both mini and maxi scales, and single floral stems gracing longer dresses.
Ankle and crop-length pants, still here. It may be difficult to find a regular pant length right now. Belts are back.
Spring and Summer are edging close, take a look in your closet. If it fits and flatters, keep it and wear it, regardless of color or shape. Want a touch of the new color palette? Buy a tee in a fresh color. If you’re a scarf girl a scarf is a wonderful way to brighten any outfit. A scarf works as a transition piece as well. Buy new, colorful earrings. We don’t need to replace, replace, replace. These days it’s too costly and honestly, at my age (sliding into 70) I know what works. And so do you. Fast fashion is out.
Disclaimer: I work at a lady's ready-to-wear store. I sell ladies clothing they don’t need daily. Just sayin’.
